Letter to the Hill: IRS Accountability Is an Affordability Issue
The Alliance for IRS Accountability wrote to the Senate Finance Committee today with a simple message: IRS accountability is an affordability issue.
Families are already paying more for groceries, gas, and rent, and every dollar matters more than it did two years ago. They cannot afford unpredictable audits, drawn-out disputes, and enforcement rules that keep changing. Beyond the stress, these interactions take time and money that taxpayers and small businesses could put to better use, and they make it harder to plan for the future. A Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council report estimates that tax enforcement uncertainty costs small businesses $118.8 billion in new investment and $1.4 trillion in revenue every year. Recent AIA polling found that 78 percent of Americans say the IRS must be held to a higher standard.
AIA is urging the Committee to rein in harmful enforcement practices and advance the reforms in our Presumption of Rights Agenda to bring certainty, transparency, and accountability back to tax administration. Dealing with the IRS shouldn’t be one more bill families can't afford.
